SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB
What are ethics in Gurbani?
Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is a collection of spiritual rules and principles of Sikhism, but it is also a treasure trove of moral values. In this Granth it is stated that a human being must be moral before walking on the spiritual path. If every human being reads Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as a collection of moral principles instead of looking at a religious scripture and applies it in his personal life, then the morality that is being lost in the human world can come back. These moral principles are the ones that we are repeatedly pushed out of the house by the adults from an early age.
👉What is truth in Sri Guru Granth Sahib?
Speaking the truth is the first moral principle of human life that has been taught to us at an early age through formal and informal education. Gurbani bears witness to this statement of the great forefathers, which means that
ਸਚੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਹਾਨੁ।।
Those who walk on the path of truth shall be praised throughout the world.
The one who speaks the truth is always praised and the lie is bound to be caught one day or the other.
👉What is character in Sri Guru Granth Sahib?
Character means pure conduct or character which is praised in the Gurbani as Jat Sat. Jat Sat means to bring the mind to a state of stability by controlling the senses and giving up the five vices. Giving the highest status to pure conduct in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, it is said that
ਸਚਹੁ ਓਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਉਪਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਆਚਾਰੁ।।
True is higher than everything; but higher still is truthful living.
That is to say, it is the pure conduct and morality of a human being that determines the true identity of his character, which is the stage above all his achievements.
So if we make this principle of pure conduct in Gurbani a part of our personal life, then incidents like rape and looting all over the world can be prevented.
👉What is love in Sri Guru Granth Sahib?
The word love is mentioned in the Gurbani in different meanings, whether it is Prabhu love or the love in the name but its real meaning can only be understood in a humanistic sense. Gurbani emphasizes that before attaining the Lord, one must love his creative nature. That is, it is impossible to attain God without believing in the love of a human being. If every human being keeps this moral principle in his mind, then the conflicts of caste, colour, race, religion, language as well as rich and poor in the world can be easily resolved. Gurbani states this principle where it gives spiritual colour
Amongst all is the Light- you are the Light.
By this illumination, that Light is radiant within all.
There, on the other hand, is the message to man in simple words:
ਅਵਲਿ ਅਲਹ ਨੂਰੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਬੰਦੇ।।
ਏਕ ਨੂਰੁ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਕਉਨ ਭਲੇ ਕੋ ਮੰਦੇ।।
First Allah created the light, then by his creative Power, he made all mortal beings.
From the one light, the entire universe welled up. So who is good, who is bad.
👉What is Fraternal Communion in Sri Guru Granth Sahib?
Due to the sense of brotherhood with every human being, human fraternity is established in the world which can be considered as the main need of today’s time. In today’s fast paced society we see that in the fast paced life we are making decorative items in the houses due to the abundance of goods, but we have forgotten that the real decoration of the house is due to human relationships. These fine threads of relationships are the foundation of patriotism. Gurbani, on the other hand, provides a model of human communal harmony in which human development as well as intellectual development is possible.
👉What are the practices deed?
Practicing deed is the law of nature. In order to survive, a human being has to do some basic necessities like food, clothing, housing, education and health facilities. It can also be understood in connection with the principle of labour. Which is based on the dynamics of human life. Sitting idle is a sign of lethargy which leads to stagnation in life. Whereas human life should be like the flowing waters of rivers. In which there is novelty every moment. According to the Gurbani, the only work that is successful is the one that is done by one’s own hard work without violating anyone’s rights. The work done by killing someone’s right is equal to poison.
Humility Compassion instills humility in human nature. Humility in human nature makes a distinct impression mainly through speech. It is on this basis that we create an image of the nature of the other person who speaks our name. In many places in Gurbani too, the human being is exhorted to be humble and is praised as the essence of all the good qualities.
👉what is the wiseness in Sri Guru Granth Sahib?
The wise also say that ‘the poison of those who have sweet tongues is also sold. However, those who have bitterness on their tongues cannot even sell bottles of honey. Guru Nanak Dev, while examining the fact that the Simal tree is very tall and taller, says that there is no point in being tall because it has no fruit or leaf taste and no breath. As a result, the passer-by who comes to him returns disappointed. Which means we should keep our humble nature.
The general concept of “Don’t speak badly, Kartaro Dariye”, speaking badly is compared to “speaking faintly” in Gurbani.
In this regard Baba Farid says don’t speak harshly to anyone because God Himself resides in all beings. But on the other hand Guru Nanak Dev Ji says that if we treat someone harshly or speak harshly, it has a bad effect on our health. Humility should become such a part of our nature that even behind someone’s back we should think of him instead of slandering him. Doing so will also kill the ego in our mind.
